I understand that psychotherapy is a significant investment in your well-being, and I work with a limited number of clients in order to provide personalized care. We’ll meet weekly for around 6-8 weeks depending on your goals, then figure out the best treatment schedule for you from there.

I can help you reach short-term goals, but I work well with long-term clients working to heal significant trauma from their family or religious upbringing. Fees are due at the time of service, and I request 24 hour notice for cancellations, or the full fee will be charged.

I am not contracted with any insurance companies so I can provide treatment that is best for you, not an insurance company.

However, depending on your symptoms and treatment plan, some insurance reimbursement for out-of-network therapy services may be possible. I can provide you a Superbill with information about your diagnosis and treatment for you to submit to your insurance company, and they may offer you partial reimbursement for fees.

You can call your insurance company and ask about mental health benefits for your plan with out-of-network providers, but typically I’ve seen reimbursements of 40%-60% of my session fee. I cannot communicate with an insurance company on your behalf. If you meet certain requirements, you can also use a FSA or HSA card to pay for therapy.

Clinical Values

Anti-racist, Trauma-focused, Non-pathologizing, Neurodiversity-supportive, LBGTQIA+ Affirming Therapy in California, Idaho, and Florida.

I am committed to working holistically with clients of marginalized backgrounds and identities. I am fat-positive, anti-diet, and follow Health at Every Size principles. I stand with clients against a dominant culture that degrades and dismisses people based on their size, gender expression, identities, or disabilities.

Many of my clients are re-examining the role of religion in their lives or are healing from religious trauma, spiritual abuse, and fundamentalist, cult-like, or toxic church communities. Dysfunctional family patterns often go along with harmful religious groups.

Spiritual abuse and religious trauma are uniquely painful experiences that can involve losing your support system, trusted leaders, or deeply held spiritual beliefs. For those working at churches, Christian colleges, and ministry organizations, leaving a toxic workplace has scary financial consequences.

I focus on therapy for people raised in Evangelical, Christian Fundamentalist, and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints backgrounds, but may be able to support other faith transitions or adverse high control group experiences.

If you’re looking for a religious trauma therapist or spiritual abuse recovery in California, Idaho, or Florida, I can help you heal and find a healthier religious or secular path forward.

Referrals & Giving Back

I want you to find great therapy services that you can afford. You deserve to heal and find meaning in life, no matter your current financial circumstances.

Sliding-Scale Therapy Services

My sliding-scale services are full at this time. For lower-fee therapy services, try Open Path Collective. Open Path Collective requires a one-time $65 fee and an application to join, then you can contact any therapist advertising sliding-scale spots on the directory. Open Path Collective therapists offer sliding-scale sessions for people who meet income requirements, at $40-$70 per individual, or $40-$80 for couples/family sessions.

I also recommend therapist training clinics that offer sliding-scale therapy based on income, including telehealth, in California: Miracle Mile Community Practice in Los Angeles, The Well Therapy Group in Orange County, and Sentio Counseling Center in Los Angeles.

Giving Back

I make a monthly donation to the National Queer and Trans Therapist of Color Network Mental Health Fund which offers scholarship funding for therapy services. If you are a person with identity-related privileges, I encourage you to donate to this organization and others that fund mental health access for people who are marginalized by abuses of power.

As a former homeschooler, I also make monthly donation to the Coalition for Responsible Home Education, which advocates for the well-being of all homeschooled children in the United States.

Religious Trauma Resources

For religious trauma resources, visit the Reclamation Collective. They offer a therapist directory to find a licensed provider in your state, and national pay-what-you-can support groups.

Journey Free also offers a religious trauma recovery membership site with virtual support groups and connections for people deconstructing or experiencing a faith transition.

Good Faith Estimate

You will receive a Good Faith Estimate at the time of your intake session in alignment with Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act. The Good Faith Estimate requires that health care providers and health care facilities inform individuals who are not enrolled in an insurance plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage, of a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges, both orally and in writing or upon request or at the time of scheduling health care services. If your bill is $400 more than the Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute charges. Find more information about your rights at: https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises

How Therapy Works

Therapy is most successful when there is a strong professional relationship bond between client and therapist. In short, you should like talking with your therapist and feel like they like you!

This isn’t to say therapy will be easy. I’ll work to earn your trust and be a compassionate witness to your life, and you can always tell me how our work is going for you. Your feedback is vital to me!

Psychotherapy is inherently uncomfortable, because it involves speaking the truth about your experiences and feelings, examining your beliefs and identities, and taking action to improve your relationships and well-being. EMDR Therapy and healing from your past may involve an increase in pain, discomfort, and distress.

In a world that demands your attention and performance in a million different ways, therapy is dedicated time to focus on your real experiences and desires, and that can feel strange and even painful. But I hope that it feels awesome and empowering, too!

Because our relationship is so important in your success, it won’t hurt my feelings if we decide a different therapist would be a better fit for you. I can offer referrals for other great colleagues. I’m an active therapist, so you won’t get any long, silent, nodding sessions from me. You will get hard questions, real feedback on your progress, and swears when it’s appropriate.

Virtual Therapy in Orange County and across California, Idaho, and Florida

I offer all psychotherapy services, including EMDR and couple therapy, via secure video.

My clients find that virtual therapy sessions are easier to fit into their busy lives with no commute time. Virtual therapy is also a way for me to support people with certain disabilities, autoimmune conditions, or high risk for COVID-19 complications who cannot meet in person, and I’m committed to that option.

Teletherapy laws means that I can work with you anywhere in California, Idaho, or Florida, but not if you are located in another state, even temporarily. Certain situations and symptoms are not well-suited to virtual therapy, but we will determine right away if this method and my therapy skills will be a good fit for you.

We will use a secure video system that is compliant with HIPAA privacy standards. It does require a reliable internet connection, a private space, and a device with a camera, microphone and speakers, or headphones. A laptop or desktop is required for virtual EMDR sessions.
